- What are templates?
A template defines the way in which a specific set of data or content can be stored and organized.
It describes the structure for data entry. For instance, the "Photoset" template defines the characteristics
for you to use to describe each photo in your album. Photos in your album can be described with characteristics
such as date, caption, etc
A template can be used to create many organizers. Each organizer"s data will adhere to the data definitions
in the template from which it is created.
- How do I create a template on Cylive?
You can use the 'Create Template' facility on Cylive to create templates. This page can be accessed by
clicking the 'Custom List Template' link in the 'Create New' box on the Summary (My Cylive) page or
'Create New' button on the 'My Custom List Types' page (click the 'Create New' button or the 'List'
link on the 'My Content' page to access this 'Create Template' page).
- How can I modify a template?
Clicking the "Edit" link next to the template on the "Create a New List" page will
bring up the "Create Template" form for that template. You can then modify the template using this form.
Please note that you can modify or delete a template only if you own it, provided that template has
not been used for creating organizers.
If you wish to customize templates that either you do not own or have organizers created, you will have
to clone them. Template cloning can be used to modify the original template and to create a new template.
- Who owns the templates I create?
You own all the templates you create for your personal use or public utilization.
You also own the templates you cloned and / or customized from Cylive pre-built templates or other

- What is an organizer?
In Cylive, organizers are containers for storing content in an organized, structured manner.
The template used to create the organizer determines the structure of the organizer"s content.
- What is the difference between a template and an organizer?
A template defines the structure or format of data. It separates the data format from content. It is conceptually similar to a physical paper-based form (e.g. an IRS 1040 form), which is used to elicit information in a structured manner for a specific task. Boxes, borders, and instructions indicate where & what to fill data. Thus, the template dictates the form (the structure) of the content.
he organizer contains content (in accordance with the structure of the template). A filled IRS 1040 form would be an example of an organizer.
By separating content from the structure, you can choose to change the template in the future without loosing your content.
- Can I create my own organizers?
Absolutely, you can use any template (either system-provided or you define) for creating as many organizers as you want.
You can create organizers for your private use. You may also choose to either share your organizers with your groups or publish them for public use. You can even choose to "unpublish" an organizer you had previously made public.
- Does Cylive permit publishing mature content?
Cylive has strict policies regarding the publishing of mature and / or offensive content. Cylive reserves the
right to remove offensive content without the consent of the owner if the content is found to violate the Cylive Terms of Use.
Cylive permits users to publish mature content. Such content should be flagged by checking the corresponding box at the time of creating the organizer. This keeps Cylive safe for users of all ages.
- What are tags?
A tag is a keyword, which acts like a subject or category. It identifies the topic or property that the specific content relates or pertains to. You can assign multiple tags to your content (e.g. an organizer). Tags can be used to specify properties of an object (or content) that are not obvious from the object (or content) itself. For instance, a photo of a cat can be tagged with cat, animal and cute.
Tags help you organize, search and retrieve disparate content objects with similar properties.
Cylive uses tags to identify content with a degree of relevance. Tags help Cylive users search and get results not just based on content, but also based on content categorization. You can add tags to any content you create (templates, organizers, thoughts, etc.).
More than one tag can be attached to content in Cylive. We encourage you to tag all your content with words that identify the content with a high degree of relevance. For example, a stamp collection can be tagged as "stamps, philately" instead of "collection". A broadly scoped tag carries less relevance in search results of Cylive users.
- How can I connect with other users of Cylive who share my interests?
You can use the "Cylive Search" function to search for other Cylive users with similar interests. You can then choose to send a message using the Messaging feature of Cylive to connect with the other user(s).
- I have a ton of content in other applications. How do I move it to Cylive?
You can use the "Import" function of Cylive for moving data and content from other applications. The Import function currently supports .CSV file format. The first row of the .CSV (input) file must contain the same field names in the same sequence as defined in the template.
- Can I move content from Cylive to other applications?
Content in any Cylive organizer can be migrated to other applications using the Export function. The organizer content gets exported into a MS-Excel Comma Separated Value (.CSV) file.
- What kind of content can I publish on Cylive?
You can store almost any content on Cylive in your private area. However, you should post or upload on
Cylive content that you are comfortable sharing with others or exposing to the public. But, if any of your
published content is found to be in violation of the Cylive Terms of Use, we retain the right to remove
it with or without notice.
- I found something offensive on Cylive. How do I report it?
You can use the "Report Abuse" page (by clicking the "Report Abuse" link at the bottom of the Cylive page) to inform Cylive about the inappropriate (or illegal) activity. Please include as much information as possible in your messages so that we can accurately trace the instance of abuse.
You can also report such content to Cylive by clicking the 'Flag as Inappropriate' link on the 'View Content' page.
- Can I syndicate my content?
Yes, Cylive is RSS 2.0 compliant and hence supports syndication. Therefore, any content that you store on Cylive can be aggregated in another application that supports RSS. At present, you can subscribe to an aggregated Cylive RSS feed, which helps you stay up-to-date with recently published organizers, thoughts and user profiles
- How do I report a bug or problem I encountered?
You can use the "Contact Cylive" page (by clicking the "Contact Cylive" link at the top of the Cylive page) to inform us about the bug or problem you encountered.
To help us resolve the problem quickly, please include as much information about the occurrence, such as your Cylive ID, the page you were on, the function or link clicked, error message displayed, etc.
- What are categories?
Categories are vertical silos of information. Users are required to assign created content to an appropriate category.
This categorization helps other users locate information related to their specific area of interest more easily.
