We knew the Braves had a superb young pitching staff in 1991, when Cy Young Award winner Tom Glavine (20-11), Steve Avery (18-8) and John Smoltz (14-13) led Atlanta to the first of two straight World Series appearances. Then Greg Maddux was added to the arsenal. Two more trips to the post-season have followed, including the Braves 1995 World Series triumph over the Indians. Check out the numbers from 1991 through 1995 Glavine: 91-41 (.689); Avery: 62-41 (.602); Smoltz: 62-53 (.539). And Maddux? How about 55-18 (.753) in three seasons with the Braves! He has won more consecutive Cy Young Awards than any pitcher in history. Hes the leader here. Thats his Wilson- model glove. And his artist-painted signature on the ball, right on the sweet spot. No doubt about it, these guys come to the ballpark loaded and ready to fire.
