Work by itself is so demanding that we don’t get a breather. It could also leave us with no energy to exercise afterwards and we may not able to take time out to work out in the morning before leaving for work. So, how about trying to pattern our day in such a manner that we can use a little time while at work to `work out’?
It is possible. Here are a few tips. But, first, you must be motivated enough to try these out. So, promise me that and I’ll tell you how.
To begin with, keep a pair of tennis shoes at work. Try walking to office if it is within walking distance or take a bus, instead of being dependent on your car all the time. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Trust me; this exercise will not just keep you fit, but come in handy someday in an emergency when you may just have to climb a few flights of stairs. While in office, try to walk a little in between mails and deskwork, maybe to see a colleague or to the coffee machine. Just stretching out will make you more active and less lethargic.
During lunch or coffee breaks take a ten minute brisk walk through the parking lot, or walk to the nearest cafeteria and back. Avoid taking the car to lunch, and stick to non greasy healthy food.
While at your desk, move your feet back and forth from the ankles as if you are stepping on gas to keep the muscles moving. This exercise is also good for your knees and will keep them in good shape and thereby help you walk gracefully for longer in life.
The other problem area we all worry about is our stomach, which doesn’t get to exercise while at work. There is a solution for this, as well. Just try holding in your abdomen while you are writing mails, for instance, for a few minutes each time and feel the tension. This method helps tuck in the tummy more effectively than doing crunches. Make this approach an integral part of your workday routine and the results will begin to pour in
