What started off as the most evenly-matched World Cup, with as many as 6 countries with a genuine shot at winning the tournament, eventually turned out to be the most lopsided affair. Australia was the most dominant team and most-deservedly emerged as champions. Their performance was more superior than any other team. Just looks at the figures:
(1) Their scoring rate per over was 20% faster than the closest team (South Africa)
(2) They lost the fewest wickets per 100 runs scored (1.51 wickets). They took the most opponents' wickets per 100 runs given (5.38 wickets).
(3) Their net run-rate per over was 72% higher than next closest team (Sri Lanka).
The full statistical summary of the performances of the 16 teams at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 (the 3rd most popular sporting event in the world) in the West Indies is presented.
