On May 16, 1980, in a game between Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, Winfield was hit by a pitch from pitcher Mike Krukow.
Winfield jogged towards the mound, but was tackled by the catcher before he got to Krukow. This lead to a brawl involving players from both teams!
