Google filed a patent that would allow users to pay for goods from vending machines and retailers -- as well as make larger payments -- via text message, or SMS (short message service) technology
The patent was published last thursday by Google, as GPay is described as "a computer-implemented method of effectuating a payment, comprising: receiving at a computer server system a text message from a payor containing a payment request comprising a payment amount sent by a payor device operating independently of the computer server system; debiting a payor account for an amount corresponding to the amount of the payment request; and crediting a payee account that is independent of the computer server system."
So, now the internet is buzzing about this new phone termed as GPhone as real. Apparently Google has shown the new mobile phone to a handful of Boston entrepreneurs. There already are a bunch of people involved in building services for this new platform such as video search and google's own GPay.
I don't think anybody can confirm this for real but at this point all I can think is, well, Google could probably do certain things better than Apple did with iPhone but what about UI? Google is known to create products that have functional but not exactly "visually appealing" UI.
Guess we will have to wait for a long time before this is a reality.
