Medicines have today become such an integral part of our lives that we take them for granted and consume them without much ado. Popping pills is as matter-of-fact as eating and drinking, nowadays and we do not have the time to stop and wonder whether there is a way out for us.
Why have things come to such a pass? Is it because we have fallen prey to the synthetic fast-paced environment and that we have unhealthy, rushed lifestyles? Or it is because everything around is so suspect what with rising levels of pollution, adulteration, over-processing of foods, and a host of sub-standard products inundating our supermarkets?
Whatever be the cause, we have to admit that daily medication has become our escape route. Tablets and capsules and syrups and tonics rule the roost. And, there seems to be no looking back from here. The Medication Crisis somehow reminds me of TINA – There Is No Alternative!
Yet, I believe that a few safeguards can be brought into place so that we don’t lead such heavily medicated lives. I’m not going to preach here. Just ensure that you supplement your vitamin and mineral intake with daily exercise, weight control, healthy diet habits and regular health check-ups – if you are in the 35+ age group. Even those who are younger need to be aware and keep fit. Why fall into the medication trap if you can avoid it?
Do not substitute food with medicines and pills. Make health a way of life and you may never have to submit yourself to heavy medication.
