Tip #1.  view

  • Choose a good fishing spot or lake in your area. If you are a first-time fisher, ask your fishing friends to pick a good local spot for you.

Tip #2.  view

  • Research the types of fish that are found in your fishing spot or lake. You will have to choose appropriate lures for catching that type of fish.
  • Your fishing line should be strong enough to reel in the size of fish found in the fishing spot. This will ensure that bigger fish will not be able to snap the line and get away.

Tip #3.  view

  • Use a sinker on your line. With a sinker the lure gets to the bottom of the river where fish are more likely to be found.
  • Also, use a bobber on your line, particularly if you are a novice fisher. This will keep the bait at a desired level in the water. With a bobber you will get to know easily if a fish bites the lure.

Tip #4.  view

  • Handle the bait as less as possible to avoid transfering your scent to it. Wear disposable gloves while baiting the hook.

Tip #5.  view

  • If using the continuous casting method, wait for a few seconds till the lure sinks into the water and then start reeling the lure until it comes out of the water.
  • If you use a bobbin on your line, wait for the bobbin to be pulled under the water. That means a fish has taken the bait.
  • Once the fish has taken the bait, give the line a quick tug to set the hook. Then reel in the fish quickly.
  • Make it a point to be quiet while fishing.

Tip #6.  view

  • Always be aware of people around you when casting to avoid accidentally hooking them.
  • If fishing on a boat, always wear a life jacket.
