Color is the most important element in decorating. Studies prove that colors directly affect emotions and productivity and cure various ailments. Warm colors like red and yellow convey a message of togetherness and strength, vibrancy, alertness, creativity and action.
Red in various shades are commonly found in dining rooms and libraries as it is a very stimulating color that affects our appetite for food and thirst for knowledge. Increasingly, this color is used in kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms as well.
Yellow has different effects depending on its tone. A sharp yellow is actually deterring, but a paler yellow can create bright and pleasing environment. Pure orange is extremely warm, but hard to tone down and is best used as an accent color.
To create a warm atmosphere one need not paint all the walls with a warm shade. You can use a dominant warm hue (red, orange, yellow) on the accented wall and use a contrasting subtle cool shade (green, blue, violet) on the other walls in the room. One can also use related colors like a pale yellow and rust and gold or hues of red, pink, orange and purple to create a more complimentary look through the house.
When using a warm color pay attention to lighting as it reflects light a lot. Morning sunlight casts a white glow while the strong evening sunshine radiates an orange tint. CFL bulbs are not just environment friendly – they also can produce a warm and inviting look.
Accessories that depict warm colors when used in a room that is painted in neutral or cool shades can also create a warm atmosphere. Curtains, throws, rugs, flowers, vases, paintings that are warm in color scheme can actually change the feel of your home from dull to vibrant.
