Sunburn is a dangerous malady to suffer from as it ages your skin considerably and can lead to dangerous skin diseases like cancer. While it is best to prevent sunburn, if you do suffer mildly there are a number of home remedies that can cure your suffering.
Adding a pound or so of baking soda or even oatmeal to tepid water and bathing in it for about half an hour will bring immediate relief. Vinegar gives respite as well. Add a cup of vinegar to tepid water and soak for a while. Alternatively, you could spray the vinegar directly on to the affected areas. Applying aloe vera or lotions with an aloe vera base cures sunburns as well. You may have to repeat the treatment.
For very mild burns and depending on your skin type you could apply vitamin E oil at night that will transform your mild burn into a tan overnight. Freshly sliced cucumber, when applied on the affected area, aids in reducing the inflammation as well.
Some experts recommend boiling lettuce leaves in water for about 10 minutes and then cooling the water and bathing the affected area. Never bathe the affected area in either hot or cold water. It is best to maintain room temperature. Wash the affected area with an antibacterial soap to combat any secondary infection. If any blister forms on the skin, breaking it will lead to infection, so allow the blister to suppress naturally. Drink plenty of water and eat light foods like fruits that are high in water content.
If you feel feverish or suffer mild pain take aspirin, but if the symptoms are more severe and the burnt area is very large do consult a physician so that you can be treated properly. Never ever take sunburns lightly.
