Tip #1.  view

  • Often issues such as the terrain or location of your shoot will determine the type of camera.
  • For instance, if you want to take pictures while on a long trek, it would be unpractical and unmanageable to carry along a bulky view camera.
  • So a rangefinder or single-lens reflex camera would be your best bet. Either of these two would offer the best tradeoff between bulkiness and picture quality.

Tip #2.  view

  • There may be times when you need to use your camera for a variety of photoshoots - from portraits to landscape or fauna shots.
  • In such a situation, you would require a versatile camera. Your best bet is a single-lens reflex camera - it is not only light and compact, but can also be used to produce high quality images using a range of lenses and filters.

Tip #3.  view

  • The choice of camera will depend to a large extent on the nature of photoshoot (which in turn decides the required image quality.)
  • Portraits in general require high-quality images.
  • So, if the requirement is for producing portraits, then your should choose a view camera. These cameras produce high quality prints which can be enlarged without any loss of fine image detail.

Tip #4.  view

  • The time you have to prepare for your shot also determines the camera choice.
  • For example, you may be a street or a sports photographer with little control of what picture you will shoot and when. Then your best bet would be a single-lens reflex camera because it is easy to set up quickly.
  • On the contrary, focusing and adjusting a view or rangefinder camera is difficult and time-consuming.

Tip #5.  view

  • The quality of the final print will determine the camera choice. A high-quality picture requires that the shot be originally taken on a large film camera. A view camera would be ideal for such use. These cameras normally use high quality, large sheet film which produces excellent print images without loss of image detail (such as posters, etc).
  • Single-Lens Reflex and rangefinder cameras can also produce high image quality on smaller film. But, enlarging the print would lead to a drop in image quality.
