- Egg Myth: Eating eggs is believed to raise cholesterol because egg yolks have the highest concentration of cholesterol in any food. However, this is a myth. If you eat eggs in moderation (e.g., two eggs a day) then there are no health (cardiovascular) risks since studies don't show any difference in cholesterol levels.
- Carbohydrates Myth: Reducing carb intake in your diet may help a person shed weight due to water loss resulting from reduced carb stores. That does not mean the opposite is true, i.e., eating carbs in moderation leading to weight gain.
- Drinking Water Myth: The body is supposed to need 8 glasses of water a day to replace water lost through breathing, urinating, sweating each day. But, people also get water through other sources. And too much water can possibly be harmful resulting in an imbalance in the body of sodium, a condition called hyponatremia.
- Vitamin Supplements: People don't have to necessarily take supplements. If your diet includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, protein, low-fat dairy & whole grains besides the right amount of calories, then vitamin supplements are not needed. However, since we may not be able to strike such a perfect balance in our diet, popping one multi-vitamin is the right thing to do.
